I would need more information on the situation they were in. Do you (or anyone in the vicinity of the birds) smoke (and I mean anything -- cigars, cigarettes, weed)? Do you burn candles or incense or use any kind of air freshener or insect sprays in the same room you keep the birds?
You cannot do this stuff with birds in the area -- they have very sensitive respiratory systems and it WILL kill them or make them very sick.
What were you feeding them? Were you keeping their water clean (sometimes I have to change my birds' water dishes three or four times a day).

If you overheated a teflon or nonstick pan that could have killed them as well. They also could have been sick. The only way to know what happened is to take them within the first 24 hours of death to a vet and have a necropsy (animal autopsy) done.
