My cousin is being homeschooled by my mother, and my cousin needs to graduate this year. She needs another credit for english but she refuses to do literature, she's failing mythology and she's horrible at grammer. She reads book and does book reports and some other stuff and she needs one more credit, but she's clueless on how to get it. Any suggestions?

I was going to suggest that your cousin try taking a lower level English class at a nearby university or community college--often, colleges will allow high school seniors (including homeschoolers) to take one class, rather than AP credit.

Studies have shown that traditional grammar worksheets will not work (believe me, I have read these studies until my eyes bled). The best way to learn grammar is by doing, which means writing, writing, writing!

My suggestion is to try a basic composition course, the kind you would get in a developmental English course, as this seems to be the best fit for your cousin. This requires reading essays, writing summaries, critiques and analyses of them. Not only will this teach good reading skills for college, but it will prepare your cousin for college writing and the critical thinking skills she will need.

Alternatively, force her to take literature. She will hit a literature or humanites class and without a familiarity on how to read literature, your cousin may be in deep water.
