Different states have different laws that regulate at what age you can do what. In Alabama, you are a minor until you are 19. At 16 you can date whoever you want regardless of their age w/o any legal issues (even your parents can't press charges against them even if they are 50). At 18 you can move-out, but you can't sign a lease. In order to move out legally you would have to be emancipated. Which means, family court has to decide that it is in your best interest to be on your own. You would have to file a petition with family court. I was on my own, legally, at 16 by doing this. (I even took my notorized and sealed papers to the conveniece store to buy ciggerettes, since it said basically that I was of legal age, even though I wasn't. Some stores would actually accept it.) If you have a good family, I wouldn't advise it. Growing up quickly can have dire consequences that you just don't understand at 16 even if you think you do.

Moving out of home sounds great but in reality there is more to it. Cleaning - bills - grocery shopping- broken washing machines -home insurance.... the list is endless. I personally think that it is a big thing at any age but at 16 you are going to need a lot of help. Unless home at the moment is that bad stay put, if you wait a couple of years you will easily be able to find a friend as a flat mate which would help loads financially.

U can go into a foyer or YMCA or something, you'll be a priority for them because of your age, I know cus I did it myself. You'll need a letter from your mum declaring you homeless, be warned though Foyers etc are full of dicks, so if you go that way don't get too involved with the people you're living with, it'll only get ya into trouble. I'm 19 soon, moved out a couple of days after my 17th birthday, and went back to parents twice cus things went to ****, so never say never. Good luck mate I know how hard it is with parents, and also know that what alot of people who are answering this don't realise that not ALL mothers make them breakfast, wash all their **** etc, so he/she might well be used to doin that already, plus if u do the Foyer bills will be practically non existant, most of them are covered. Hope it all works out.

Don't do that!
Youre only 16!

Its very difficult to pay for a house, car, insurance, taxes, loans, water, heat, electricity, hold a steady job, clean, shop, cook, do laundry and take care of yourself all a one time while you are 16...

My mom did it...she COMPLETELY regreted it...you have your whole life ahead of you...why would you want to move out? Education should be your top priority and by moving out your education starts to fall under other things like a job or paying bills.

You arent ready to pay bills...youre full of teen angst...do your homework, shower daily and obey your parents...thats all i can say...really

if you want to move out, fine. But think how nice it was when your mom made you breakfast and did your laundry so you didnt have to wear dirty clothes for school.

good luck and stay at home

One can be emancipated in most states if you can afford an attorney and show how you can support yourself and continue your education. It is not as easy as you think and should not be done unless you are in a dangerous situation at home. It will require a great deal of extra effort to support yourself while you finish high school and college OMG that is expensive. You don't want to spend your life doing minimum wage jobs so you need to think real carefully before you tackle becoming an emancipated minor.

Yes, the legal process is emancipation, it transfers the parental responsiblities to the child. You will need a place to live, adaquete food, and will have to continue going to some sort of school. Also, unless you can prove that your mother is an unfit mother and you can take care of yourself, you do need parental "consent" so to speak in order to procced with this process

If you have legal parental consent. Other than that no. I just moved out a couple months ago the real world sucks trust me. Stay at home as long as possible.

You could move out, but how will you be able to pay your bills. Having a house/flat is expensive. You will also not be able to get any credit (need to be 18 for this).

Depends which country you live in and what the laws are there. Where I come from (Scotland) you are judged to be an adult when you reach age16 after which you can move out, get married, or do whatever you like.
