It depends on what she means by contagious....

It is in some indirect ways contagious, as you may pick up the bad habits of eating from others. As there is focus in society on being cool, maybe some friends eat the fattyest burger in the burger bar, because its "cool" and get fat?

Obesity isn't just related to someone gluttonising themselves into being massive, some people have conditions where they have faulty genes which make them constantly store fat. Suppose its possible for there to be a virus that does that, but its unlikely and probably would be well publicised, it would be a very public fear a virus that made you fat :/...

Its always possible, we never know everything ^_^

Yes and no. In some cases, very small number, obesity can run in the family. I have know some people who couldnt do anything to loose weight. later it being linked to a genetic defect in the thyroid.

In the US its very easy to become obese(33% and growing) because the amount of garbage thats for sale today. Its almost impossible to make healthy choices if you are a busy working adult. Even exercise wont save you from the side effects of poor eating habits. IE diabetes, heart disease etc.

To a point....not contageous like a cold but in a different way.
Obese people tend to hang out with obese people. They tend to have the same lifestyles and habbits, and if you find you are hanging around obese people you may notice yourself eating more or less like them. Not being as active as you wouldve been normally. Therefore effecting your weight as well.

So only to a point and its a far far reach to that point but its one to think about.
birds of a feather and all...

People please dont freak on my answer Ive seen it happen to a few friends. Just from simply hanging out and doing the same things as thier "new friends". They got comfortable in a certain setting and let it flow from there. Instead of saying "I think I'll go to the gym today" they chose to hang with "X" and play video games and eat all day ...day after day. So in a way it could be considered contageous...but NOT medically.

No. To be contagious every one that comes in contact with them would get fat..... doesn't make sense, does it?
But it could be hereditary. Fat parents really don't keep a good eye on what their children eat.

lmao.
figuratively.
Which means someone's actions and habits that may be making them obese can rub off on someone else.. making them obese also.

Yes, it may be caused by a contagious virus. Remember, "may be" is not the same as "is".
