i'm going to look at puppies this weekend from an adoption agency. they are german shepherd/ lab retrevier mixes. im only getting one. only 2 months old...but im wondering how big his fenced in area should be when hes an adult. we have alot of property but not a ton of money to built it too big. so what do you think should be the right dimensions. height, lenght width...stuff like that? remember hes going to be a big dog.

Well, big of an area as possible. I would get a fence atleast 5' high, 6' would be better though.

I have a border collie and he could clear almost 5' so I'm assuming a german shepard mix would do about the same if we wanted too.

Good for you for adopting and good luck with your new baby!

Are you talking about a dog run or a fenced in backyard? If you have a fenced yard let the dog have full run of it.
If you are talking about a run where you can leave the dog for short periods unattended then you need an area that is about 12 feet long & at least 6-8 feet wide by 6-8 feet high. Make sure the dog has protection against the sun, wind & rain and an area where he/she can lay down that is cool & dry (cement patio stones).

He will need a big space. Many big dogs really don't require as much but shepherds and labs can be high energy and you want enough room to throw a ball and him chase it.

I don't know much about fences. But a dog runner is a very good idea. They are relativity cheap compared to a fence and you can get them very long and wide.
