Sadly the term acne is often misused - it does not mean a few spots that clear upwith simple remedies. True acne, and I think this applies to you, gives large deep spots that can heal leaving unsightly scars. If you do not mind this then cotinue to follow gibberish advice such as diverse and untested lotions potions and washes.
If I were you I would ask a dermatologist about Roaccutane. This drug has known side effects which you can discuss; it does, however, work. The suicide thing is touchy. A number of teenagers commit suicide, a number of teenagers take roaccutane. If I were a parent I would rather blame the roaccutane than accept that my teenager took his own life for some other reason - do you see where I am leading?
I think you will find your doctor very sympathetic. He will also avoid the quack remedies you will read about - they can be helpful for a few spots but can be disastrous for true acne vulgaris.

I was on tetracyclene--didnt work.
Then microcycline(something like that)---- made it worse
AND then oxytetracyclene---- a little bit of improvment but not much.
What worked the most was some off the shelf tablets i got from Just beauty chemists(boots should do it, its a brown bottle with orange/white label) called CLEAR COMPLEXTION they were about £4 for 100 tablets. They worked within about a week and they didnt have any sideaffects that i found with the prescribed medication.

You should definately go back to the doctors. Tell him the last tablets didnt work and they will give you something else. Ask for cream as well. In the meantime drink plenty of water (it flushes out toxins from the body) Try and eat as healthily as you can, lots of fruit and veg(boring i no) but it will really help. Hope this helps and good luck.

Got acne at 30 - almost 34 now and it's starting to clear up. Went through a number of tablets til the doc gave me Zineryt. After a few weeks using that and a facial scrub it seems much better - currently no spots! (Touch wood!)

If the tablets aren't working - antibiotics such as Tetracycline and Minocycline take 3 MONTHS to improve things- ask your doctor to refer you to a dermatologist. They can prescribe ROACCUTANE for severe acne, which is fantastically effective

careful with tablets! One lot I had made me really, really irritable and another type made me have black outs.
I find my acne calms down when I use a daily facial wash like clean and clear. I also try to drink plenty of water, eat plenty of fruit and once a week use an exfoliating facial scrub. Also try cutting down on greasy foods.

I suffered from acne for many years tried all sorts, over the counter meds, GP prescribed creams antibiotics etc.........nothing worked until I was referred to a dermatologist and prescribed accutane. I am now cured, no spots for 3 years since I finished accutane,
Antibiotic cream has worked for my son though.
Good luck.

My son was developing terrible acne on his face and back. I took him to a dermatologist who prescribed Accutane. It can be very dangerous. The side effects range from dry skin & chapped lips to hallucinations & suicidal thoughts. I monitored my son closely. The only side effect he had was dry skin and chapped lips. He was on the medication for 5 months. Now he is totally zit free. Talk to you doctor about it.
