I hear many religious people get offended to hear we are animals too. Why? Are you a speciesist? What makes you better than an animal? Do you really believe they have no soul? Have you ever had an animal friend? I just don't get how people could think that.

I've watched a documentary called "Angels and Animals". It's a viewpoint that is quite interesting. Examine that from a healthy perspective, don't view if only looking for an argument.
My answer to your question is NO, my religion does not teach that humans are better than animals. Nor are animals better than humans. Some people say we are a species of animal. We are at the top of the Food Chain. In comparison with other animals, we are the only one destroying our homeland-Earth. I too wonder why religious people would be offended to hear we are animals too - perhaps they want to believe we are more evolved than animals. The only animals destroying our planet are humans. This definitely does not make us any better than any animal, even bugs or worms!
As for believing they have no soul - they exist, they take only what they need for survival, they work for everything they have, they have feelings, (maybe they haven't tried owning a pet!)

Religions or religious people, I think, don't talk or teach that way. Some people, yes, they say that we are the most intelligent creatures in the planet, and i think basically we are.. We eat, sleep, feel, think, lust for our counterparts, have sex, but we do it the human way. That makes us not better but different from them. You know, sometimes animals are better than us, becoz, they know how to be content. Unlike us humans, animals eat only until they are full. We people, have this disgusting character called gluttony or somewhat like "greed"! I think that is why we are the highest form of animals. We can be vicious and greedy than any other life forms on the earth.

I am a Christian, and some Christians say that because the Bible says that we have "dominion" over the animals, it means that we can do whatever we want to them. However, my denomination of Christianity preaches that, in this case, dominion means "responsibility." We have responsibility to the animals just as parents have responsibility to their children....to protect them, to cherish them, to treat them as precious. So anyone who believes that Christianity says that people are "better" than animals are putting a different spin on the words of the Bible than I believe was intended.

Oh, and we do believe they have souls, too. That's another one where different branches of Christianity disagree.

religion was written by humans, for humans. Therefore animals are given little signifigance. Probably because they would be unable to condone the eating of animals if they had souls., and they liked chicken too much to give it up.

Yes, mine teaches that we are better than the lower animals. However, I am not offended by classifying people as part of the animal kingdom.

Genesis 1:26 "Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and the cattle, and over all the wild animals and the creatures that crawl on the ground.'"

If that doesn't mean we are better than animals I don't know what does.

God bless,
Stanbo

I know I am more than an animal!

Matthew 6: 25-26
25"(AF)For this reason I say to you, do not be (AG)worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
26"(AH)Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?"
