restaraunt...come out of the bathroom and begin spooning up his plate.... would you say something to them? Or to others in line behind him?

I would tell the person "you forgot to wash your hands" and wait and see if he goes back. I'm not going to follow him back into the restroom. I'd tell the manager and the people in line because that would irresponsible of me not to. Of course, I'm out after that.

Good question I don't think its my right to embarrass the guy/girl but I might take precausions also I might ask the staff to replace the utensils.

Oh yeah -- I don't mean to scare you but Im guessing about 2 or 3 out 10 people do not wash there hands before they eat at a buffet or when that come out of the bathroom at the buffet either.

Are you serious? What do you think is going to happen?

Apart from your overly fastidious reaction, this guy's sin is little more than bad manners at worst. Even taking the worst case scenario, in which this guy weed all over his fingers and then used the buffet, what do you imagine this could cause? Do you have any reason to believe that the man is carrying cholera? Rabies? AIDS?

Look, it's a good idea for people to practise basic hygiene routinely, but that doesn't mean that failure to do so will cause an epidemic. And nor should you consider people's bodily excretions and secretions as being dangerous biological poisons. Worrying about them so obsessively will make you much more ill than contact with them will.

Lighten up. If you're concerned about contagion, consider that the guy right behind your miscreant, the one who washed up diligently, may be shedding cold viruses from every pore. If you don't want to catch them, wash your *own* hands.

Don't waste your time. Do you have any idea how many people don't wash their hands? And how many people have probably touched food on the buffet. I would be more worried about what they do in the kitchen. Buffets are so, so unsanitary - you can't get much worse. So, if it grosses you out - don't go to any more. I hate to tell you, but there is a lot worse going on with that food.

When I'm at line at a buffet, I'm usually with someone (a friend, my husband, etc.). I'd turn to my companion and say in a loud enough voice for anyone within ear shot to ear, "Oh my God! I just saw that lady in the blue striped shirt come out of the bathroom without washing her hands and now she's touching all the utensils. UGH!"

That happens more often than you think. I don't eat at buffets for a variety of reasons. I used to work in the restaurant industry & saw some things you wouldn't believe! I don't go out to eat very often. If that had happened to me, I would leave the restaurant with an empty stomach.

Besides not washing hands, I have seen food service workers not using gloves to make the food you're eating. It is very likely that buffet food has been contaminated by any number of people. If you're not neurotic like me, then just let it go and enjoy your meal.

No one in the world would believe this but a prominent television preacher was in the ladies room with me and she DID NOT EVEN APPROACH the sink, let alone wash or use wipes. I followed her out (I was drying my hands when she breezed by the sinks after going potty) and said to my companion, loudly, "She didn't even wash her hands."

I think it's fair to say that where others are around her. I would have said it about anyone but that woman, in her "level" of society shakes hands with people all day long...think about that and try not to throw up. Yuck!

You would mention it before they got back up to the buffet, otherwise...

-How would you know they didn't in the first place?
-You must have been in the bathroom with them to know, right?
-It would be poor taste to wait until they get up to the food and say, "EXCUSE ME SIR... YOU JUST TOOK A BIG NUMBER TWO AND DIDN'T WASH YOUR HANDS. WOULD YOU MIND PUTTING THAT EGGROLL BACK AND GO DO THAT?!"
