Yes, this can work wonders if the subject has fewfears of hypnosis (neurotic or paranoid) Unfortunately most addicts do have problems in these emotional areas.

I have 3 hypnotherapists working at my private alternative therapy clinic and they deal with all sorts of addictions. Success for stopping smoking in the last year is running at 92% so tell me it doesn't work!! Long term success - ie 5 years or more is running at 89%. We have done a lot of monitoring of our therapies & success is very high - it's only the ignorant few who dismiss it - usually as they have nothing much else to offer.

I personally know a few people who were hypnotized to quit smoking and it did not help at all.

I was hypnotized to quit smoking and the hypnotist confused me so much I don't believe I was under.

I believe it can help many people if you can get the right person.

Good luck to you.

I'm in recovery myself. I have heard that hypnotism may get rid ot the craving to use, but to recover and stay in recovery, you need to find out what is causing you to use in the first place. Then learn how to deal with it in ways that aren't self destructive.

The 12 steps work.

Good Luck

I have know two specific people that were hypnotized for kicking the habit of smoking. Person number one, it lasted for about 8 years. Person number two, it lasted for 2 months. Person number two didn't really have the deep desire to quit....she was just doing it to keep her boyfriend quiet.

Sorry it is no use at all. See your GP and get him to refer you to the local community addiction team.

I tried it for cigarettes. It did nothing for me. I finally quit on my own a year later so it had nothing to do with hypnotherapy.

My sister tried it as well. It did nothing for her.
