The woman should have apologized at least and disciplined her child. Letting a child get away with something like that is totally uncalled for, no matter what may or may not be wrong with the child. If the child is prone to temper tantrums the parent should not let them have items that can hurt people when they are thrown. Some parents just have no common sense.

I really think that a lot, not all, but a vast majority of children who are out of control, lack parental authority. Seriously, if your kids is a totally out of control brat & has nothing wrong mentally, then your just a lazy parent. I have 6 kids (his, mine, & ours) & none of them would ever hit me or throw something at me or anyone else. They watch what they say & know how to behave. Of course they argue & act up once in a while but they know the limits. You just have to set rules & stick to them. If you let your 5 year old get away with kicking & cussing at you now, what do you think is going to happen when they are 13?
Do I think the parents should go to jail? No...unfortunately, it's not a crime to be lazy. But I think they should have kicked them out of the store at the very least. If the child injured someone, the parents should be held accountable for that. It's their responsibility to keep their child under control.

i don't think the parents should go to jail but i feel that the parent should have appologized to the lady and the worker at the store. and i aslo feel the child should be disciplined. if the child is violent and doesn't have a mental condition then something is up in the home. maybe there is abuse going on or the parents need to take a parenting class to learn to discipline their child. also keep in mind its not just children that act in these manners. fopr example, when my son was 4 i took him to mcdonalds and we sat down to eat and an elderly couple sat down behind us. my son being 4 (of course he doesn't sit still) was squirming around in his chair and the lady behind us turned around and said could you please make him stop kicking the chair. he wasn't kicking the chair he was just squirming around but i bit my tongue and said yes and i told him that if he didn't stop we were gonna leave. of course he stopped squirming in his chair but a few minutes later he started again (keep in mind 4yr old don't sit still!) and the lady turned around again and dumped water all over my son and i! and this was a grown woman that did this so it's not just children these days that act like this.

I don't think that anyone should go to jail for this. I think the mother should have apologized, but you know...she may have just been too mortified to think straight. If the child was "tearing up the place" the mother should have removed her child from the store immediately. But you never know another person's life...like someone else said perhaps the child has some issues, perhaps an emotional or mental disorder. You just never know.

Whoa - let's go back to the beginning. It's apparent this child has had no manners taught and no love and kindness instilled in her by her parents. Do you think she came into the world knowing right from wrong? Of course not! Instead, she was treated badly. And obviously she's acting out the craziness and anger and irresponsibility she's seen at home. So, yes, this child is doing something wrong, and yes, the parents are completely responsible for teaching her this behavior. Please don't assume that kids are born in the world knowing what to do; they live what they're taught.

Social services can step in and take the child away for parental neglect. I knew someone this happened to. If your child is that young and you can't control them, you're better off letting someone else raise them!! People like that get me mad. Raise your own kid correctly, or they'll end up in jail when they get older!!!
What kind of mental condition lets a child abuse adults??? Is our society that whacked?

Yes, both parents should go to jail and as a result the child should go to foster care. Foster care does great things for a child's behavior.

the child truly has a mental problem she should not have been allowed to be within reach of objects that could be used as weapons.the mother should have at least made an attempt to apologize.

you should have called the cops!
the mother would have been held responsible (this does not sound safe for the child or others)
