I am looking for a good reel that will get the job done for a good price 100ish. If you could give me some good recommendations on reels and rods along with links I would be greatly appreciated.

I am not a rookie at fishing just the reel type. I have lots of poles and I have one Bait caster (I got it at a yard sale for 50 cents and I fell in love with it now I am just trying to find a new one.

You really can't go wrong with the Abu Garcia Ambassador style reels. You can get a pretty good one for that kind of money. They are very well build and will last. The downside is they can be a bit touchy to learn on. For a new baitcaster you can try one of the Quantum ALS reels, they have a breaking mechanism that you can adjust without having to open the side of the reel that can be handy. Problem wit h Quantum, for me, they haven't been very durable.

Think about this, learning on a Garcia will take a day or two, then you're fine, and you'll have a reel that will last for years. Learning on a "begginer" reel may be a little bit easier, but in teh end its a very small part of the life of the reel.

Good luck and tight line.s

If you are a rookie it might be wise to invest in a moderately priced reel to start off with. First you will need to determine what type of fish you will be fishing for primarily and then you will need to decide what type of lures/bait you will use. I would then go buy a moderately expensive one to try it out. Maybe buy one bait and one casting. Most of the reel companies make all ranges of quality reels. I would say any Shimano, Daiwa, St. Croix, Okuma, Abu Garcia reel over $30 will serve you well until you figure out what you like to do and how you want to approach it. Avoid spending too much money now because each company has their own niche and you can use a little bit of fishing to figure out which of these categories you fall into. Good luck! Make sure you put your line on correctly and not too much on or it will ball up on you and you won't have fun.
