My mom bought me a car. She lives in Pennsylvania, I live in Michigan. She's going to buy insurance for the car in PA, in her name, so she can drive it here. Can I use her insurance or can it be transfered? I would rather it not be transfered just use her insurance.

If the car lives with you, and sleeps at your house, for longer than 30 days, it has to be insured at your address, you as principal driver. There is an exception. If your principal residence in Pennsylvania, and you are a student in Michigan, then it can be registered and insured in her name, and you given permission to have the car at school. Note the laws differ slightly from state to state and province to province, so you need to talk to a broker licenced in Michigan, and your mom needs to talk to her broker in PA.

You can't "transfer" insurance. You have to purchase your own insurance for a vehicle you are driving in the state you live in.

If the car is registered in your name, you will need your own insurance. If the car is registered in her name, and is insured, chances are you can drive it, covered under her policy.
