I guess my big problem is really paperwork. The rest of the mess doesn't really matter much. It's when I can't find financial statements or bills or checks or tax documents that I start having trouble.

Yes, I clutter. I try to overcome this by regularly going through my clothes and giving away what doesn't fit or what I don't wear to charity. If I buy something new, I try to make something old go away--to Goodwill, or to the trash, depending. Also, going through your clothes and getting rid of what is ripped or stained or too small helps to reduce the number of garments in your closet.

I'm learning to try to have a home (off the floor and off the table) for everything. For example, bird food goes on the bottom shelf of the cabinet, not on the floor. Another thing that helps is to get lots of file folders and a file cabinet if you have lots of papers. Also, I used to keep magazines with craft ideas. Before my last move, I went through my magazines. I tore out the projects that I wanted, hole punched them, and put them in a binder. Now, in stead of having a box of magazines, I have one binder full of the projects that I was really interested in. You can do that with any sort of article.

I have also learned to constantly clean up little things. For example, If I walk into the kitchen, I pick up a dirty glass and put it in the sink. I try to keep crafts in the craft drawer and books on the shelves.

There are lots of cute things at stores and thrift stores, but we can keep our homes a lot neater and save money by asking "do I need it? Do I have a use for it NOW?" If not, probably shouldn't buy it. When going to a grocery store, check first if you have something at home, before you buy it. It saves money and keeps your shelves cleaner.

I hope this helps you.

Oh yeah, I clutter alot. I have not overcome it, but I'm trying. I've got a new rule, I can't buy anything new until I've organized, and that includes organizing materials. Have you checked out Clean Sweep on TLC? It's pretty fun to watch and might get you motivated. My motivation is that my Martha Stewart sister in law is coming to visit in two weeks for the first time.
