Vanessa,
The Bible was originally written in Greek and Hebrew and then translated into numerous languages including English. Prior to that, it was passed as oral tradition.
While I do view the Bible as the word of God, it has been modified several times - both intentionally and unintentionally. King James literally had certain things removed although it has for some reason remained the English standard for most people.
A friend of mine who recently passed away had a Masters in Theology. He was also a Dutch-Reformed minister at the time. He read the original Hebrew and Greek and was very disappointed how much the Bible had been modified to support cultural biases. He no longer had a church after his discoveries because it upset him that much.
God gave you a brain for you to make judgment for yourself. You can talk with your soul and know what is right for you from the Bible. You already have a good indication on what is and is not right for you. Pray and be comfortable with your own knowledge.

Why wouldn't sex before marriage not apply today if you are a Christian? Marriage is supposed to be sacred bond. Why would you want to have sex before marriage - why would you want to share yourself, give the most intimate gift you can give someone before you find your spouse.
A lot of women's role in the OT is misunderstood. Women had a more honored role then what we are taught. I remember in Catholic school that I was taught that Jewish women had no rights, no recourse no nothing. In fact they had the right to divorce, own land, and have their own money. They had the right not to be abused, and were to be respected. They were considered to be born wise.
I can't say the same for the NT - but anyways, the roles of women in the OT are a lot different then we understand them to be today. We tend to see the Law as almost a punishment and women in the roles of servants. When in reality women held high positions, could read and write, and made lasting impacts on their faith.
Read Proverbs 31 - it talks about a good woman and wife. That is what a bibical woman was supposed to be like.

Try this website, which lists everything about women in the Bible. Like how they are dirty when they have their period and how they have to bring sacrifices after their periods and for childbirth (twice as much for the birth of a daughter).
http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/women/long.html
It tells about using women as sex slaves, ripping open pregnant women, beating women, divorcing women, etc. Everything you want to know. There are also links to how the Quran and the Book of Mormon view women as well.
After reading that, try to find out where exactly in the Bible it says women even go to heaven. And ask yourself why almost no woman named in the Bible ever has a daughter - always a son.
Then ask yourself if this is God's word, does he really love women? Women are not even allowed to speak in church, according to the Bible. Would they be allowed to speak in heaven, if they were even allowed inside?
Where does it say in the Bible that you can pick and choose which commandments to follow? There are 613 commandments in the Bible. How many do YOU follow? When was the last time you made a burnt offering? The Bible mentions burnt offerings 354 times. It must be important to God. Does your priest/minister perform burnt offerings?
There's a lot more to religion than having sex before marriage.

Nope the Bible and the ten commandments are not old and are for the 21st century.
An Example you covered:
Sex before marriage;
Man in his weakness and fear of failure has chosen to live together before marriage and if it doesn't work out someone will leave. The problem is someone will be hurt because they thought it was forever. The mess left behind may be STD's, an un-wanted child born to poverty or a one parent household, a bad (easy)reputation that follows, used, rejection, abuse, etc. Those things are pure sin and they hurt people. Jesus came to take away the hurt but people continue to include the hurt by trying to change the laws of our creator.
Man through history has always rejected God and things happened in the history of the Bible. God loves everyone even the sinner but he may work with nature that chooses to melt polar caps, volcanoes, diseases and plagues, earthquakes, and attacks by radicals. He knows we will turn to him for help, maybe today maybe tomorrow maybe in 1000 years, but we will turn to him because his way won when Jesus overcame all sin for all time. "It is finished!"
He said that on the cross. Sin will eventually be eliminated but we have to follow the command to love and forgive and follow the 10.

Because of the changes in society we have the problem that you are asking about, these problems were in the time the Bible was written, if not they woul dnot have been written about. That is why the Bible, in questions of faith and following God's commands is unchangeable. Sex is only for the married, because God commands it such and because it is a beautiful gift that shoul donly be shared by two that are willing to make this most sacred commitment to each other. society hasn't changed, the people have. Have a great day and God bless, thanks for the opportunity to spread the truth.

These things you mention are not outdated. Just because many people do this doesn't make it right.
Statistically, people who have sex before marriage and live together before marriage have a higher divorce rate than those who do not.
Being a Christian is being NOT of this world. Not following the trends of society, the moral degradation. But following the Lord.
Sansfear, scripture does NOT state anywhere that a woman is not saved until she gives birth. That is utterly false.

the role of women was limited. The old testament teaches that they should be stoned to death if found to have had sex before marriage. They were not to be spoken too when on their period, and were forbidden from entering holy places. If a man touched a woman when she was on her period he was considered 'unclean'. It's very clear from reading parts of the bible that it was written by very ignorant people, and I find it very hard to beleive that anybody can take their views on the world seriously in this modern society. As far as i'm concerned the best update the bible can recieve, is to be thrown in your fire.

Most of the laws of the bible have been fufilled.
Did you know
There is further revelation and laws.
It is called the new and everlasting covenant.
The ten commandments do still apply tho.
Do you think that if God were God he would leave us without revelation and guidance>?
If you wish to know these things and learn of Gods will for you. There are very cool blessings from living rightiously and actually trying and adhearing to the commandments of the lord.
It is a promise in the book of Mormon that if you read it and ask God in the name of Christ if these things are true he will manifest it to you through the power of the Holy ghost.
Cool challenge huh?
I testify that I have done this and got my answer and there is a true church that is unchanging and in unity in its own laws.
Good Luck and God bless

No No No No!!
The Bible may have things that are culturally different, but the basic principles are the same.
Sex is something that should only occur between a husband and his wife. There is nothing cultural about that. Just because society has become more lenient, does not mean it isnt right.
The Bible should never be changed.

sex before marraige is still a bad thing you do not realise that untill you are oplder and married but it jarms you emotianaly and spiritualy. men can never forget any women they have seen naked or any sex act so when they marry they will always wont more than the wife can give. this was not in God's plane. I do admite some things in the bible need to be understood in context of the time but I do not think that is one of them.
