Sunflower seeds contain both monounsaturated and poly unsaturated fat, the types of fat that may protect the heart. They are also a good source of Vitamin E, selenium which is often deficient in our diet and other important nutrients such as magnesium, potassium, iron and zinc. Therfore they are definitely good for you!

Sunflower seeds contain vitamin E and are low in saturated fat, much like the sunflower oil that is often used in baking and frying.
The only bad thing with sunflower seeds that you get in the store is that they may have been soaked in salt water and dried, which gives them that very salty flavor. People on low-sodium diets would be wise to avoid these.
And if you are eating the type with no shell, they also tend to have been salted, but what is worse is that they may have been lightly fried or sprayed with peanut oil to help the salt adhere to them. Peanut oil is high in saturated fats.
Make sure to get the unsalted variety and check the package ingredients.

Sunflower seeds are a good source of potassium and phosphorous. Eating more than 5 ounces a week can cut heart-attack deaths in women by 40% and help prevent deadly irregular heart beats in men a Harvard University study found. So yes they can be good for you.

Any "whole" food in moderation is good for you. The only downfall with sunflower seeds is that whrn packaged they tend to be full of sodium. So as i said moderation is good for anybody!
