I live in Ohio and I just watched the news this morning and they are saying there IS an ingrediant in the weight control dry Iams that is questionable but they are not recalling it. I have a 8 year old Golden retriever that is on that and I will not feed that to him anymore. I just knew the dry would get questioned next. I wouldn't feed your cat that food anymore.

I fed my cat IAMS dry food. She was fine the first week of December. On December 21st, I took her to the vet and he was shocked that her kidneys had completely failed with no prior history of kidney problems. He said this type of failure is sudden only when an animal gets into antifreeze. We could not figure out what happened. I am convinced it was the food. I do not have any left but also hope someone can prove the dry food was contaminated as well.

My cat was on IAMS Weight Control CANNED food for over a month before the recall. I heard of the recall almost imeditely the story broke. Even though the IAMS I had here were not part of the recall, I still stopped giving it to my cat. I returned the cans I still had in my cupboard to Petco and switched my cast to Natural Balance. Thank God my cats are OK... watched them closely for a few days... no barfing or loss of appetite or lethargy, etc. Thank the Lord... But I WILL NEVER BUY IAMS again (nor Eukenuba or Nutro).
But I have heard several stories (testimonies) from "Pet Conncetion.com" of people's dogs becoming very sick after eating Iams DRY dog food.
Makes you real leery about Iams, ah?

You are the third person that I have heard this sad sad story from. First off, I believe anyone still feeding their animals Iams or any of the other brands on the list, is taking a major chance. I also do not feel it is the fault of the cat food company, when I've heard about China sending tainted ingredients. It is up to the company to take action once they are aware of a problem. Have they done that? I honestly don't know. We too have tossed all of the Iams and others that we were warned about. Thank God all our cats seem healthy.

None of the Iams dry food has been recalled. If you go to the Iams website, they go into great detail that all of their dry products are manufactured in their own plants and they only subcontract out the wet food products that they sell. In fact Menu Foods, the company that produced the recalled food only makes wet foods, not dry.
I had a problem with my dogs getting sick from a major food manufacturer a few years ago. They sent me a pre-paid postage package to send a sample of the dog food back to them for testing and they requested the UPC label from the food. They also sent me a coupon for a new bag. They explained that occasionally pet stores and other retailers leave dry on the shelves too long and it spoils, which can make a dog or cat sick. So it is important to check sell-by dates on dry food. I would contact Iams ASAP about your situation and see what they say.
Good luck to you - I know how difficult it is to have a pet die and how hard these situations are.

I feed my cats the same thing and nothing has happened. Kidney failure is not that uncommon in cats though so I'm guessing it's not the food.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.
They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!
This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.
It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.
