I'm going to Bangkok (Thailand) in May for 1 week then flying to Phnom Penh (Cambodia) where i will probably be staying for 6months to 1 year.
My flight is booked to depart Heathrow in may and come back to England in October. On my flight slip it states that Thailand will require a tourist visa, will i have any difficulty getting this, i only plan on staying in thailand for 1 week.
When i get to Cambodia i'm gonna apply for a tourist visa for 1 month then extend it to a business visa. I've been told that i can do this unofficially and should be able to stay there for several months.
Please give me some advice.

Thanks

You need only one "visa on arrival", valid for one month, not a tourist visa. Then it is not more necessary to pay the tax (700 baht). The government has recently cancelled it.

I am not certain of what nationality you are but if you are talking about tourist visa, just go visit the local Thai Embassy. They'll be more than happy to give you a 2 months (some get 3 months) visa for a very minimal charge.

Not much difficulty unless you had previously visited Thailand and had been arrested for criminal charges.

Have fun.

Margaret's information is incorrect. The visa is stamped in your passport. The white card is a travel ministry card documenting the arriva and departure of persons to the Kingdom. the departure tax is now 700 baht. If you have over 3, 30 day visas on arrival in your passport in a 6 months period you must get a 60 day tourist visa prior to arrival or you will not be allowed to stay.

you must be totally confused with all these different answers. You need a visa to enter Thailand however, you will receive that visa on arrival at no charge to you, it is valid for 30 days, so your have no problem when you enter or leave Thailand. As for the 700 baht, that's an airport tax not a visa tax.

On your arrival in Thailand you will be issued with a 30 day transit visa which will be sufficient for your needs. Check out the Thai consul website ( Hull ) if you want full information. I am in Thailand at the moment.

you dont have to cross the border for 24 hours to renew your 30 day visa in Thailand ...... i went to Cambodia and Myanmar from Thailand and returned in under 2 hours later and got a fresh 30 day visa for Thailand. you can get an exit stamp from Thailand and immediately get into the line to return to Thailand and youll get another 30 days. im not sure where that one poster came up with the 24 hour rule.

you get given an automatic 30 days when you get stamped in so if your only staying for 1 week you will not need to apply for a visa (if you have a British passport that is). when you arrive in Bangkok at immigration, when they stamp your passport it will have a date stamped and you have to leave the country before this date

hmmn, you have said where you are coming from, but you never said where are you from, or should i say where your passport is from. you will be able to get a visa on arrival with dramas if you are from most western countrys, but if you are not, you may wanna look in to it.
