Unfortunately the "one love" mentality is of no benefit to the PMN or UNC...they get their votes over being divisive. I was extremely blessed to live through the NAR regime. For all the blame placed on the NAR for the coup fiasco, this was a period of common sense and responsibility without resorting to blame and racism. I'll even trot out my conspiracy theory...remember there was no opposition members in the House the fateful date...makes you wonder if they were involved in creating unrest with Bakr's assistance in desperation to get rid of the NAR.
And Canada eh no better. Canada's politics are not racially divided because they are not enough minorities to give trouble. Canadians are too polite to tell you to the face that they hate you because of your skin colour. The upside of T&T (not much of a consolation prize, I admit) is that they call you n* and c* to your face.
My sweet T&T really needs a nucleus of leaders who can rise above the garbage.

It's unfortunate that with such great resources, there is so much crime and dysfunction. Race is just one of the issues, but it seems there is so many other agendas on politicians minds, that the crime is escalating, hospitals are run down, and the judicial system is in dire need of help.
I wish I knew of a solution, but things just don't seem to be going right no matter who's in office. Police don't seem to be doing a great job, but then it doesn't seem as if they are treated well either. The hospitals aren't the best but funding for them and their emergency system seems just as bad as how the streets in Port of Spain look after Carnival Tuesday. I hope things improve, and I know many people who are quite happy there. But if the changes are any sign for what the future holds, I wish everyone the best of luck.

I'm a bit disturbed by the politics but its not sufficient to make me move...
The small bit of good news is that the upcoming voters are NOT voting race politics but more on issues and it was reflected in the last three general elections where the number of young people who voted steadily increased with each poll.
I think this is an indication that people fed up of Bas and Patrick and most importantly.... the future generation fed up of Bas and Patrick.
The crime scourge bad but where else that you know of is crime free????
Really like Patick said... that is collateral damage.
There are little alternatives and because all politicians know how hard it is for Trinis toaccept change they hitting us for six.
Imagine there are few new political movements who can survive on their own.
I see the COP is coming up but I really hope that Dookeran is not another Patrick or Bas... I realll fed up of dem two

Yes, there is hope, the population now have an alternative and this group is not talking RACE.
I however, see your point and like you i wish for the day when we do not have to walk this road. I remember my school days at my secondary school in Port of Spain, there were students of all races, indian, chinese, african and all kinds of mixed blood and at no time was anyone referred to by their race, we saw a student who did .........whatever, not an indian/chinese/***** or ........ But we all know it is the politicians that started this nonsense - big men, small minds.

It really is down to the politians appealing to the lowest common denominator.
Think will get much much worse before it gets better.
They need to enact some racism laws out there......The amount of casual racism i hear out there p*sses me off no end............and it aint just from the man on the street either!
