My oldest sister lives with her ex boyfriend, they recently broke up b/c he says he fell out of love, but still loves her as a person. So right now they are both looking for separate places. It is sad for both of them.
Evidentally his e mail was open & my sister looked in his sent e mails. She said she found an e mail with the subject Hi beautiful. It was an e mail from a year ago (they were together). She immediatly confronted him. he said it was to a girl he had meant before her, online, from another country, only spoken w/by email. She has never had any desire to look through his things before. She isn't like that anyway. He called her all sorts of horrible names. She said she was sorry she looked but not sorry she found something. She was actually shocked.
They had been talking about how things might work & were going to try in separate apts. He said now he would never trust her & forget trying. She said he shouldn't have been sending e mails like that. Who is right?

This is a situation where 2 wrongs don't make a right.

He may be telling the truth that this is someone he's known for a long time, & the salutation of "Hi Beautiful" could be no more than that, a salutation. But keeping this person a secret was wrong.
On the other hand, your sis shouldn't have read his mail, though if he was careless enough to leave it exposed.......

I think he wanted to be caught. This gives him a GOOD excuse to end the relationship permanently, lessens his guilt. The "I-cant't-trust-you-anymore" reason, though he himself has been dishonest.

It is probably best they do go their separate ways.

He is using her actions on him as an excuse to walk away from the situation, he needed an out, and she gave it to him. It's better this way for both of them. If he was an honest person, not talking sexy with other women, he would have nothing to hide and nothing for her to 'snoop' in. So he cannot blame her for his wrong actions, if they are a couple they shouldn't have anything to hide anyways.

Neither one of them are right. She should have trusted him, but at the same time he shouldn't have been writing emails like that to other women while they were together.

She is wrong.

They had already broken up, so she had no right to confront him over anything that did or didn't happen during the relationship.

How stupid to fight over something that is now meaningless.

She was wrong for looking. But he was DEFINITELY wrong for doing that. He's as mad as he is because he knows he's in the wrong - so he's trying to turn the tables. She doesnt need to be with him anymore if he's that kind of guy, anyway.
