Not to bash a previous answer, but I would highly advise against using 'Olga's Gallery,' abcgallery.com, as the images are of horrible quality. Much better is http://www.wga.hu, the Web Gallery of Art. *Tons* of pictures there, plus 'tours' which would show you some of the best art of the 14-1700s-- a direct link to those would be http://www.wga.hu/frames-e.html?/tours/index.html . The Artchive is OK, a step below maybe-- it's http://www.artchive.com/ftp_site.htm and also has virtual tours ( http://www.artchive.com/tours/tours.html ).

The Temptation of St. Anthony by Hieronymus Bosch is a famous painting done in the 1500.

Caravaggio did the Crucifixion of St. Peter in the 1600.

offhand, (former art history student here), I would suggest searching the university of michigan's art history site. They have something they call the motherlode (or something-other) of all sites. It's a massive page of links to other helpfull sites and was always helpful in my long nights of research.

abcgallery.com is a great website. It has artists and most of their work from tons of eras and movements. I referenced it a lot when I was in school.
