If the pug is kept clean, he may be just fine. Spend some time with him at your friend's, if possible. Ask that she first give him a bath..You should know within a few minutes.
It is hard to know what triggers the allergic reactions. My daughter was affected by cats, but not dogs. However, she loved cats so much that she had several of them, and just stayed red-eyed and sneezy!
My brother was only bothered by dirty dogs, as the pollen and grass that dogs carried in their fur was the allergen..He seems to be allergic to so much! but he is a dog breeder (Pomeranian) and the dogs don't bother him if kept clean.

The only way to know what your REAL ALLERGIES are, is to be tested by an allergist. A person can be allergic to almost anything. Most often, though people are allergic to Pollens (big right now), Molds (things are damp), Foods, and Animal dander.
For many of these problems allergy shots are available to de-sensitize you the the most offending ones.

If you really want the dog you can get meds to help with your allergies. Pugs are awesome dogs. No matter what kind of day you are having they can always make you smile. I know a lot of people who have pet allergies and they take the meds and have to signs of it. Consult with your doctor to see if you are even allergic to dogs.

Are you allergic to dogs? You could be allergic to a mulitude of things but if you're not allergic to dogs then it won't be an issue. Have the dog stay over for a day or two and see if you become affected. This is a bad time of year to do this since blooming is beginning in earnest and it will be difficult to determine if you begin having a reaction whether it was the dog or something else like flowers or grass or trees.

If you're allergic to dog dander the Pug will kill you. No matter how often you brush it. You need a dog with hair, not fur. That would include Airedales, Poodles, Portuguese Water Dogs, Laradoodles, etc.

I think it would depend on how strong your allergies are because there is nothing seperating a pug from any other dog.

depends on how bad your allergies are. i have bad animal allergies but i am one of those that wont give up my pet. i got a boxer puppy last sepetmber, it took a while for my allergies to calm down but eventually they did. they will be crazy for a month or so but they do get better. however if the dog gives me hugs or touches me too long i get welts. depends on how much suffering you are willing to go through. get some claratin.
