We were just talking about this yesterday, so it's not just you. I think it was Newman that came in after a minor incident, changed some tires and ended up with a radiator leak that the pit crew didn't even notice. And yeah, to see the whole deck lid come flying off with such a minor hit was pretty crazy. We really don't need to give NASCAR more excuses for "debris" cautions.

The cars did seem to lose a few parts but that may be safer since it helps to deflect impacts away from the driver. When the commentators explained how the front spoiler can cut down tires they seemed to infer that maybe nascar purposely made the cars more easily damaged and the spoiler to cut the tires in order to decrease the amount of bumping/rubbin. The speeds generated on the short track are so much less than on a mile or superspeedway that I can only imagine the amount of damage we would see at a restrictor plate race or mile race.

There were only 5 DNFs due to accidents. That is a bit on the low side for Bristol. It did look like they fell apart even with slight contact (like Harvick had broken braces on his splitter). However, we did not see cars out running around with no sheet metal on the front end. So, I don't think it is all that much worse than the old car. And, the broken parts were not that detrimental. What concerns me is the splitter cutting down rear tires, like Bowyer did to Kahne. After that, Kahne's car was pretty heavily damaged, but he was still able to run the same speed as the leaders, and he was actually passing guys in the top-10. Plus, he was missing part of his wing.
I think it was just typical Bristol, and it is not really something to be concerned about.

I noticed too, to a point. One car that was pitting I noticed both rear 1/4 panels were pulled away at the seam's where it meets the rear bumper/panel and you could see daylight on both side's. Don't remember that before.
On the other hand, I don't recall any splitter's flying off at all like everyone predicted.
Nascar will be tweaking these cars for a long time, and lord knows how much Nascar like's to tweak with everything! LOL

Looked like the front air dam was held up with aluminum rods that fell off as the car scrubbed in the turns. That's a lot of crap on the track to blow out tires and cause damage. The trunk having to have cables to hold it on was the biggest surprise to me.

I don't think there was enough "true" short track racing on Sunday to know. The guys were to easy w/ there cars, but if I was in their shoes, I probably would of took it easy @ first too. Maybe after Martinsville we will know a little more. Hopefully, Someone will be running upfront that doesn't mind using their bumper a little, especially if it's to win the race. After next Sundays race, We vote.

The cars arent indestructable its just the fact that the splitter will come off and if you hit someone to hard then damage will be done, and just look at what happened on the first lap. Yeley got damage on the back of his car from someone hitting the back of him I believe it was Casey Mears but that was just before the race even started. I think that they need to make it stronger but then again maybe their was alot of side by side racing that caused all the damage.

Ya know, what surprised me is that you didnt see any cars driving around at the end of the race with no front. They all had front noses. In past races, it seemed that about 4 or 5 cars had no nose, including dale jr a couple martinsville races ago.

the cable holding on the trunk lid isnt new. its pretty much the robbie gordon rule. a few years ago he went back onto the track after a wreck and a hood or truck lid broke off and flew into the stands. open wheel racing has the same thing for wheels.

Yeah i noticed that too. They are suppose to be a safer car but when that one car (can't remember who it was) backed right into the wall not hard at all, there was debri everywhere. You must be right they are made out of something different.
