YES.
Is it enough to get rid of all the excess fat?
It could very well be. Depending on how fit you are and how intense the run is.

For a professional marathon runner that is not much of a warm up, but for some it is a distance impossible to jog without rest stops.

Try running at a pace where you can do it for 30 minutes at a good heart beat. Something that allows you to say two sentences without being totally winded.

Slowly, as you improve, your distance, pace or time spend running will increase without much effort.

Run 3 or 4 times a week. Slowly work to that goal if you can not do it now. Stretch before but specially after your jog, it will just take a couple of minutes but keep you less fatigue and injure free.

Watch what you eat, Avoid fats and sugar and you weight will go down as calories are burned by your faster metabolism.

Luck!

it depends what kind of shape you are in and how much you eat. if it's been awhile, it's a good start for the first few weeks. but it's really not very far. you should try to keep adding a little bit at a time. get up to three miles in about thirty minutes or so. then if you are really enjoying it, throw in a longer run once or twice a week.
good luck

On top of running, you should improve your diet by eating more healthy fruits and vegetables, and I have heard that you should periodically eat small snacks so you dont eat alot of food at a meal.
