i dyed my hair to surprise my boyfriend of one year and the first thing he said when he saw it was that he hated it, and that it was too dark and made me look gloomy, what should i do, im not going to dye it again, but what he said really crushed my confidence, an made me feel ugly? so what should i say to him and why might he have said this?

First, don't dye your hair to impress your boyfriend, dye it if you want to and what color you think would look good on you and make you feel good. Tell him sometime that it made you feel really bad that he said that, and even if he didn't like it he could say it's not his preference but no need to be rude. Give it time, sometimes guys just take awhile to get used to a new change, even something like a new hair color.

Looks matter to everyone, whether they admit it or not. For example, I hate tattoos on a person; tattoos make the most attractive look really ugly. The same goes with body piercings; ugh, some go way to far.
As for your boyfriend, it's apparent that looks do matter. That's not necessarily vanity but a matter of taste. He's probably telling you he likes you for the way you were and there's nothing on you he'd want to change.

If you need someone else to make yourself feel good, then YOU are the one with the problem. In fact, people who make sudden dramatic changes to their appearance tend to have low self esteem and/or are just attention seeking. Your B/F has ever right to give his honest opinion.
Perhaps seeing a therapist will help you find out why you have such little self worth.

Your boyfriend liked your natural looks. And your surprise was an unpleasant surprise for him. He found himself to be friends with a girl who didn't look like the girl he liked.
Perhaps he should've been a bit more diplomatic in expressing his feelings to you. But I think he was just being honest and open with you.

he should be happy that you have the will to go and try new things and why would he say that to you. i mean cmon now if its your girlfriend she always looks good no matter what she does. my guess is that he is pressured by other guys to the prettiest girl and he thought you looked as good as you could get and didnt want change. ask him why he wouldnt support you.

you really have a sucky bf, he does not see the good side to it, that it you did it for him. if you are gonna change your looks for someone else youll never please any one. you should be more concerned on pleasing your self and making your self feel beautyfull, because every woman is. work on your confidence

you should probably just sit down and talk to him.and he probably hated it because he liked you the way you was and he dont want you to change for him.he love you the way you were
