The substitution or addition will unset the balance of sweetness, (to much of a good thing). If it's a dessert recipe you're creating "yourself" then do not add any other sweetener for your test run, then you'll be able to determine what ratio you need for your final test.

The difference between condensed and evaporated comes in to play when you have sweetened condensed milk,***** which cannot be substituted for evaporated milk.**** Sweetened condensed milk contains a very large amount of sugar. In fact, at least 40% of what is inside a can of sweetened condensed milk is sugar. It is therefore very sweet, in addition to being shelf-stable. Sweetened condensed milk, in addition to being used in baking and candy-making

Condensed milk and evaporated milk are two different things. Condensed milk is very thick. Evaporated much more liquid. So I think it would not be good to exchange in a recipe.

No, they are not interchangeable. Some recipes call for condensed, some for evaporated. These are two entirely different types of canned milk. The names tell it all. Sweetened, condensed, evaporated.

They are not the same thing and can not be substituted for eachother...evaporated milk is condensed (less water) but is NOT sweetened. Sweetened condensed milk is very sweet-if you heat it in a pot it will make caramel. DO NOT use these interchangeably-you will mess up the recipe

It's like subbing mustard for mayonnaise. Sweetened condensed milk is just that..... very, very sweet milk used primarily in desserts. Evaporated milk is used in a wide variety of recipes, and has a different taste and consistency than that of sweetened cond. milk. It's not wise to sub one for the other because it will alter the taste and texture of that recipe.

Evaporated milk: Concentrated, UNSWEETENED milk made by evaporating some of the water from whole milk.

Sweetened condensed milk: a mixture of whole milk and sugar, 40%-45% of which is sugar, which is heated until most of the water evaporates.

Evaporated milk is just a reduced milk whereas condensed milk has a lot lot lotta sugar. I would not change it unless you want a sweet sweet dessert.

Sweeten condensed milk is very thick, I use it to make easy fudge. My father in law was visiting once & was cooking biscuits & gravy & was in my cupboard trying to find the canned milk, he found the sweetened condensed milk instead & used it by mistake. The dog wouldn't even eat it!!!
