You don't need an oven. You can simply put the toothpicks in a shallow dish and cover them with peppermint extract. Cover the dish with plastic wrap to protect from dust and let them sit for 24 hours. Take the toothpicks out of the extract and let them air dry under paper toweling.

My friend used to make Cinnamon toothpicks so I'm sure the process works the same way for peppermint. She would put a package of tooth picks in a Ziploc style baggie and then add several drops of Cinnamon oil/extract. She would seal it and shake and let them sit for a couple of days. The oil would soak into the wood. If you try using them too soon they will be too oily. I'm sure if you use peppermint oil instead of Cinnamon oil it would work.

You melt either one 12 ounce pkg.white, medium/milk choc or semi sweet dark choc. chips in the top of a double boiler, over medium heat. When melted, add one teaspoon peppermint extract. Stir in well and pour on an aluminum foil covered jelly roll pan. If using white choc. chips you can drip a few drops of red food coloring here and there on spread out white chocolate, then use a toothpick and swirl it around to make a nice pattern in the bark. Last sprinkle crushed peppermint candies on top or candy canes. If using just dark choc. sprinkle right away with the crushed peppermint candies after spreading it out in your pan. You can also make a two layer bark of dark first and then white on top of that by letting the first layer set up and spreading the white on that. It is best if doing this to purchase the chocolates from the same supplier making sure to use the same manufacturer. They will bind better if you do. You can cool off the first layer faster if you refrigerate it for a bit too. These are just one of my families favorites for the holidays. Very easy to make, with patience(smile).

Ok.....you need 2 get a box of toothpicks (might consider using plastic spoons), a package of melting chocolate, and peppermint flavor. melt your chocolate and add only a few drops of flavoring (this flavoring is so condensed that it is very strong) dip each toothpick in and let dry!!!!

Have you tried getting peppermint oil.
You could toss the picks in mint oil and they wood would simply absorb the oil.
no oven required

I never considered it, but I suppose you could soak them in peppermint extract for a while then spread them out on waxed paper on a cookie sheet and let them air dry.
