Jones wouldn't have a chance. The game has changed so much it is difficult to make a fair comparison., Old equipment old design would favour Jones, today Jones would get clobbered by woods.
Woods is so incredibly good no one can possibly doubt his ability and skill. His will to win and his skill are unmatched in golf history and maybe in the history of any sport.
He is the best ball stiker, short game player, putter, course manager and creative shot maker the game has ever known and he continues to work hard to get better who else could possible have that motivation having achieved what he has. Beyond that he is an amazing physical specimen with a religious and rigorous training program.
It's not close.

Part One: Bobby Jones' Erra
I give the edge to Tiger.

Equipment: With all things equal, even assuming Tiger just picking up Jones' erra equipment w/ out any more practice than the driving range before the match, I think Woods could do the magic he is capable of with todays technology.

*The only thing though is the courses were shorter then that Tiger, with his power and controle, could vertually limit his bag to just 4 clubs (5,6,7irons and a putter) This is only if he wanted to remove the risk of the unpredictability of hitting a persimmons off the tee.

Part Two: Tiger's Erra
Tiger! Tiger! Tiger!

Equipment: Although, Bobby Jones would benefit immediatly with fairway metals and the grooves on todays irons I just do not see Bobby spinning the ball back to within 5 feet of the pin. That play just was not in Jones' erra repitwa.

*The greens speed would also kill Bobby. I do not think 11 on the stimp meter was even a consideration back in Jones' day.

Finally the Tiger Woods mental edge is the best weapon in all modern day sports. He wills his body to do the things that is required to defeat anyone even when others are playing the best golf of their lives. He doesn't think he can win, he KNOWS. His father taught him mental toughness and I would not be surprised if Tiger is wishing you and your family dead while he is over a shot.
Jones, on the other hand, was a successful attorney. He did not need golf. Golf was truely a recreation for him. he was just the best in the world at it at the time. I do not think Jones had the level of contempt for his apponents that Tiger now has for his.

You just can not escape Tiger Woods right now. No matter who You match him up against.

I think all are vastly under estimating the ability of Bobby
Jones.
Jones in his time would definitely win. Playing with hickory shafted clubs needed a very different rhythm and his skills around the green and playing from bunkers without modern wedges, could not be developed "overnight". If someone thinks he might struggle on the super fast greens of today how much more would Woods struggle on greens of the past with putters like "Calamity Jane"( if he could find one!). Where would he get any of his clubs anyway? Don´t forget Jones took years to gather his set of clubs so that they were reasonably matching!!!
Result of match in Jones´ time over 36 holes 3 & 2 victory for Jones.
Result of match in Woods´ time over 36 holes 7& 6 victory for Woods.
