All recipes ask you to put the oven on broil. Is that right?? Isn't that too hot? I don't want to burn the outside and leave the inside uncooked.

I was planning on doing it in the oven, as bbq is not an option right now.

Preheat the broiler, make sure the chicken isn't more than two inches thick, and keep it all about six inches from the heat source. It'll be fine, no worries.

the recipe i found says to preheat the broiler and broil for 20 minutes or until the juices run clear.
but you have to make sure that the rack is not too close to the heating element or it will burn. when i broil my steaks the outside is a little crisp but not burnt and the inside is tender and juicy. so i would think the same should happen with chicken as well. good luck and i hope it turns out nice.
