I just saw there is this WiFi phone from Vonage, and if you have the Vonage service you can buy this phone that works off of WiFi hotspots. Anyone know if this works decently? and are there many hotspots while driving down the interstate?

In general, these wifi handsets work fine once you're able to get service from the owner of the hotspot, which means getting past the welcome page that's usually pops up when you first log in.

As far as hotspots on the interstate, it appears it's becoming more ubiquitous at larger service centers. I hope you're not thinking about it as a substitute for using your cellphone while in motion, because the biggest drawback to VoIP on WiFi is handoffs. Never going to happen since 802.11 doesn't have a means of supporting it.

Go ahead a get a wifi VoIP handset if you wish. Just don't leave your cellphone behind.
