No I don't like it. I think what goes around comes around.

I would leave revenge in the hands of God, or at least his Angel messengers. I take a karmic view. I believe in Equivalent Exchange whereby you cannot gain without giving something in return, and for every loss there is a gain, and every for every wrong doing- wrong will be done to you.

So just sit back. Rather than seeking revenge, try to heal yourself and rid yourself of your negative emotions. Raphael and Michael will be able to help you. And if I can help, I'm a white witch and can recommend some ways of making yourself feel better. My email is missytetra@yahoo.co.uk.

But if you can't sit back, sure, go and purge the world of all that has wronged you and bask in the glory of revenge. But you will be punished yourself for wrongdoing so I wouldn't recommend it ^_^

Love and light!

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.....is what my mother would like me to believe...however, after 21 years of living i have taken a more Marxist view of things. Religion is the opium of the people, and notions such as Karma, are a way of keeping the masses in line, by those in high up places. Revenge is justified!

It definitely is more fulfilling, but an eye for an eye isn't the way to go, I think. There is always the probability that someone will take your eye out the next time round.

What goes around is a better tact. Then you can lie back and visualise the catastrophe awaiting those damn people again and again. Then have the satisfaction that they will get theirs one sunny day.

Have a karmic view on things because what goes around will eventually come around, peace.

yeah, i think the "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" saying is right...but we shouldn't dwell on getting revenge, we should like you said have a more you reap what you sew attitude. people who do bad things always get what's coming to them in the end, and let God handle things. but the eye for an eye saying is basically saying that as a form of punishment...so if someone was to break your arm, then once they were caught, their arm should be broken just as yours was. however we don't do that now...we ship people off to prison were they can watch cable tv, get several degrees, work out, and basically live better than most people. sure they don't have their freedom, but heck, your getting served just about anything you want. thats why most people do the same things after they get out...if we started punishing them with the eye for an eye theory, then we probably wouldn't be having that problem. prison isn't punishment, its a reward. so yes, i think the saying is right.

The whole "eye for an eye" thing is about punishment, not vengeance. Seeking vengeance will not make you happy. However, if the person deserves to be punished, then you need to leave that to those in a better position to punish. You need to make sure, though, that you are doing the "right" thing. Does the person deserve to be punished? Or are you seeking vengeance? The answer to these questions is the key to your next step.

Blanket statements are never 100% correct. With that said, each situation warrents it's on response. For instance, cutting off a hand for stealing some bubble gum is a tad severe. However, if someone knowingly kills someone, they should be prepared to have the same sentence brought upon them.

An eye for an eye is a very old fashioned concept, Old Testament teaching, New Testament, turn the other cheek, I think a middle road is best, not too aggressive, but you don't want to be a doormat either! Laura.

The Code of Hammurabi was effective. It was also gentler than what had gone before. Previously, one might want a LIFE for an eye, or a major flogging for a tooth. This was a revolutionary law because it introduced the concept of balanced justice.

An eye-for-an-eye was the *maximum* punishment which was seldom, if ever, used. In order to understand Jewish law, you must have some understanding of the Talmud. The Catholic Church forbade Christians from reading even their own Bible and burned every Talmud available to them. They could not preach the eye-for-an-eye line if anyone knew about the "case law" found in the Talmud.
.

I don't ridicule Christianity without ever having read your book -- why would you ridicule my book without ever having read the Talmud?
