This is generally caused by casting from the top. The first move from the top must be down, Think of the left arm as a lever and pulling that lever directly down toward the ground to start the down swing. Several factors can contribute to this fault of outside in including a strong right hand, a cupped wrist at the top and trying to swing hard.
In a good golf swing the wrists are never cupped, the grip is firm but not tight or squeezing the club and the tempo is constant starting slow and accelerating. You need to start the club on the right plane so start down first and don't ever over-swing. the ball goes farther with a smooth tempo not a hard swing.

The easiest way to learn golf like a pro is by following "The Simple Golf Swing" program. It's primarily a 31 page eBook that teaches golfers how to make solid contact with the ball, how to avoid hitting fat, how to avoid slicing, how get more power, accuracy, and consistency in your swing. Consistency being the number 1 golf skill.
You not only get the eBook though, you also receive a ton of extra material including video, lessons on putting, driving, chipping, sand play etc. Here is their official site: http://www.golfswingguru.net

Buy a little gimmick called The Inside Approach. I know, it's just a gimmick. But I'm telling you this one actually does what it says. You have to come inside or you hit it. You're brain figures out how to do it. I bought a knock off model on ebay for $30. Fixed my slice. My wife tried it 2 weeks ago. Major difference in her swing. I don't buy golf teaching aids. But this look impressive. And it is. No I don't sell them either.

I found this drill worker really well for me:
Place a coin at 1 o'clock and 7 o'clock (assuming where you're hitting the ball is 12 o'clock) about 12" away from the ball and bring the clubhead back to the 7 o'clock coin and swing through to the 1 o'clock coin.
Good luck and have patience.

Make sure your elbows are attached to your body in the beginning of your swing---as you start the downswing.
Good luck...golf is HARD but fun.

That's because youre either plump or unathletic. Take my advice: practice swinging as if you want to take the club away at 45* and return to the ground at 45*. Take it straight back and back through on the same angle. Your elbows don't matter, your balance doesn't matter.........if you can't bring the club back on a reasonable plane!!!

Lean over the ball a little more.
Before you swing balance on the balls of your feet, don't use your heels. Keep your feet completly on the ground though.
