No.
nail biting is a learned habit, someone who has seen their parents or other family member bite their nails is more likely to bite their own nails. ( Making it seem like a hereditary trait )
The best way to stop biting your nails is to imagine what you want your nails to look like and think how good you will feel when they look that way. Try to picture this several times a day, but don't worry or beat yourself up over the fact if you do bite your nails. Just keep picturing how you want them to be and eventually you will stop biting your nails.
If that doesn't work just think about all the germs you are putting in your body (GROSS!!!)

I don't think it's so much hererditary. I think it's more a case of, if one of your parents does it, the chances of you picking up the habit are higher. My Mum used to chew her nails and I did too, up until recently. Mum started getting gels so she physically couldn't chew them. I was awful, I used to bite my nails til it hurt. There are nail polishes designed to prevent you from biting...they're clear and they taste awful. Chemical and yucky. But I used to just peel it all off with my teeth and it didn't really do anything for me. I stopped biting basically by buying a really nice nail polish. I painted my nails and they looked gross because they were too short. So that pushed me to not bite them, and when they started growing I could see how much better they looked and now they're over 2cm long. I would bite my thumbnails to stop myself from biting the rest, but I recently stopped doing that and am waiting for them to grow out.

No. It's a bad habit. I used to bite my fingernails when I was in high school. I started carrying nail clippers and a fingernail file because I only got the urge to bite when I had a hangnail or snag.

No. It's simply a nervous habit, usually developed at a young age.
