I have been allergic to onions since I was young. My father put some in a salad and I spent the day throwing up. My friend who loves onions didn't believe me and snuck one into my food last month and I threw up a couple times and felt like crap the rest of the day. Regardless of whether I know they are in there, or if I taste them or not, I still get sick. The only thing is that I am not allergic to chives or garlic which are both close to the onion "family". Also I can eat premade salsa (like Old El Paso or Tostitos) from a grocery store, but not fresh salsas like from Chipotle. Even when they are cooked I get ill and throw up.

I HAVE THE SAME THING! I thought I was the only one! Thank god!! I've been allergic to onions since I was young too...I throw up if I even taste a little in my mouth...I can't stand them and no one believes me either. These are normal food allergies...I can eat garlic too...but I guess its just something about the onion

I've never heard of being allergic only to certain kinds of onions- but I suppose it could happen, depending on what's in the dirt where the onions are grown.

It sounds to me like onions in general make you sick- and that was a rather dirty trick your dad and your friend played on you.

The only thing I can suggest is that you avoid it.

Good luck!
