I think it is neat to find the origin of the breed then name it based on its origin. Example: a Rhodesian Ridgeback is an African breed so you could give it an African name. I work at a kennel and that is how we name some of our dogs. You could find these names in baby name books or on baby name websites.

If you have a mixbreed you could pick a name that reflects its attitude. A friend of ours has a "mutt" and he was the silliest puppy and would do funny things so they named him Funny.

Good luck with the dog naming.

Well I do not know how unique it is but could you imagine the humour in it if you called your dog Mister, lol.......you could take him for a walk let him of his leash in the park and then start calling "hey mister " ......."Mister come back here right now".Hopefully there will be some gentleman in the park that day also so you can get some enjoyment out of the looks.
I had a Newfy Cross that I called Eightball...He was all black and he had this small patch of white hair on his chest that was round , he reminded me of billiard balls mainly the 8.
Just watch your dog and see his behavior or mannerisms as well as any special markings and try a few see which one he responds to the best, and go from there. hope it helps good luck.
