The biggest heartfelt THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My husband has been over Iraq 4 times (he is currently there) and I always walk away with that "feeling".
Wishing that I could give him just one more kiss...one more hug...tell him I love him one more time.
I know the feeling.

Simply...Thank you. Nothing more, nothing less. I can say this I have been deployed and there is nothing like walking from a store to your car and someone parks their car walks up and says a simple thank you. The feeling is over whelming. I as a service member thank all those civilian that are behind what we do. As an Air Force personell and having friends in the Army and Marine Corps I often thank Army,Marines, Navy and fellow Airforce personally for the work they do as I also stop to thank the Coast Guard as well for protecting our homefront water ways.
Again just tell them thank you, and lots of letters while they are away is helpful to their moral.
Current service member of the USAF

There are very few people out there that have the nerve to perform the duties of a soldier. Your nephew is a very brave soul and is making the US a lot safer because of his and every other soldiers efforts. A great big THANK YOU!!!! For me on my end, I feel that thank you isn't enough, that is why I have decided to enlist in the ARMY after I complete my bachelor's, which will be early next year, I cannot wait!

Believe me there is a great deal of help that returning veterans of combat need like mental health care. Look up PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Read enough about it that you can understand it and have some information that you can assist him or her into therapy at the Veterans Hospital or Vet Center.
Have him get the names and contact information of everybody he serves with in the Military but most importantly in Iraq or Afghanistan. Also write down all the units he or she served with during the tour in the Battlefield.
Let him or her know how important it is to go to the VA Hospital or clinic and get treatment for every mental or physical problem he or she in suffering from or suffered in the military and in the war zone.
Note: when the Veteran goes to see the Doctor at the VA, tell the Doctor all the problems that are giving the Veteran problem current of past while in the Military.
(Don't trust the doctor to write down the symptoms and information without the patient mentioning the problems. Tell the Veteran to tell the doctor all the symptoms the veteran is suffering from at any time. It is extermly important to do so)
After he or she gets hooked up and starts treatment in the VA system, have him go to one of the service providers program like, Disabled Veterans of America or DVA. Ask them to help or assist in preparing and filing a compensation claim with the VA.
When you get the results from the VA, note that any kind of approval is good, like even an approved claim of 0% compensation. This rating can be improved over time depending on how well the treatment goes.
You can and may have to go to private doctors and psychiatrists to get a second opinion which will be counted in determining the rating. It may seem unimportant at the moment, but in the future it may be the difference between having a good life and have nothing but hard times.
