I just recently got a bad sore throat, but only on the right side. My ear pounds with pain, and my lymph node on the right side in my neck is very swollen as well. I went to the doctor, he gave me little pink pills that have not worked so far (and I only have 2 left). It hurts when i try to swallow food, and I don't have a runny nose and normal cold symptoms. I'm thinking it could be strep, but I believe he tested me with that instant test swab, and I don't think it was anything like strep, but it feel like strep. What is your input please???? Should I go to emergency?

I think you have strepe too. I used to get it so bad that I could eat for 3 days, no food, no water.
Call your doctors office and ask to talk to a nurse. Tell them that your medication isn't working and you want to see if there is something else they can do for you.

Good Luck & I hope you feel better!

Oh my goodness, I had this SAME thing a month ago. Do you also have a fever with this?? Sometimes it can be strep but not show on the test... Honestly, if you can;'t even swallow a tiny pill, that is serious. I went to the doctor 3 times, and on the third time, he gave me a steroid shot because the swelling was so bad. BIG difference.... otherwise, you could get dehydrated quickly. ... also suck on popsicles to decrease the swelling. Get better soon.

from the description you gave of your symptoms I can say its not strep. It sounds more like an infection and the doctor should have given you an antibiotic.

The description of just pink pills doesn't help determine what he prescribed.

You should go back to the doctor and have him prescribe you another type of antibiotic since the one he gave didn't work. I recommend Azythromiacin or amoxicillan

Since you have already been to the doctor, call him/her and let him know that you only have 2 pills left. Maybe the prescription wasn't big enough (ie 7 days instead of 10). Let him know b4 you run out so he can either renew or prescribe something else.

Sometimes gargling with salt water helps to take the edge off. Just don't swallow.....it's gross

For the time being, what i would do, is heat up salt and water to a boil, then let it cool off just enough to gargle with, and sometimes a menthol ciggarette works to ease the pain, but if your at the end of your dose of medication, the hospital might be the best choice for you!!!

i had something like that last year and it was just a kind of flu. The problem i had is that i didn't drink because i couldn't swallow so i got dehydrated.

I went to emergency and they rehydrated me and gave me pain killers for the throat so i could drink and that was all.

So don't make that mistake - make sure you keep your fluids up - definitely go to emergency if you can't find a way to drink enough - its better to get there before your too desparate.

Don't think you should go to the emergency room. You'll wind up with like a $500 bill. Gargle some salt walter.

I recently had a bad sore throat, and pain in my jaw and ears... found out it was a sinus infection even though I had no other symptoms. I did however find something that really helped with the sore throat... they are lozenges... called Cold Eeze. They helped me soooooooooo much!

You could have strep. Only the doctor can tell you for sure. If you do you should really get some meds for it.

I love Sinofresh when I am sick. It's kinda gross to do it right but it works great. You have to "snort" it up your nose until it it comes through to your throat and spit it out (you can to this with saline nose spray too), but it always gets rid of my sore throat right away. Warning, it is really gross to do this, but it actually allows me to be comfortable enough to sleep when I am sick. And it promotes getting well sooner as it flushes away the bacteria from the area.
