I did have a black lab with a very long back when she was older she needed a coat but I had to make one myself as the ones in the shop weren't long enough. So I think made to measure is a good idea.

well if you have to put a coat on the dog, i would do what ever is comfortable and stylish for the dog. If you can make a coat that fits nice and looks nice then make it. other wise buy one its a choice of an owner, I am sure a dog could care less about the coat. A coat that is ill-fitting is not worth putting on. If its too big its not going to keep the dog warm, its its too small its going to be uncomfortable and the dog wont want it on.

I Would Definatly Buy One. They Are Realy Fashionable And Cute And Come In soo Many Different Colours And Designs, Whereas If You Make One It Probably Wouldnt Be As good As A Bought One. They Have Size guides To Measure To And Most Places Do Custom Fit

Hope This Helps xXx

When I first got my little Yorkie I put a little coat on her it didn't cost much and fitted well she didn't mind as she was a puppy, at Christmas I got her one with THE BOSS on the back and she wriggled away and rubbed herself on the floor she didn't like it at all. I think if it's cold and a little dog then yes as long as it fits well only I wouldn't dress her up in something fancy like some I've seen on TV. Her first coat was from Geryfriars Bobby web site it was warm and nice.

IF I was to dress my pets in anything , I would definitely want it to fit properly, because if your going to make your pet suffer it might as well be tailored.
Now that I've answered your Q , I hope you do not mind my opinion that is following it. Why would anyone want to put clothing on their beloved pets, God created them with everything they needed for survival. I think it is cruel , that would be like your parents or someone bigger than you forcing you to wear stuff that you didn't like or were uncomfortable. Maybe I am not thinking on behalf of the pet, like others and for that I will apologize. So maybe in reality these pets want to look really good in the park on their daily walk, so the rest of the pets will know the priviledged life that they are living and the type of power they have with the right outfit on. I mean the right Jacket on your dog could definitely mean that he can drop his doggy doo doo anywhere with no worries!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAh the standards are so different for a well dressed pet than to those born without the luxury of clothing .

It would completely depend on if I could find one that fit my dog well. If I bought one, and it was too loose or too tight, or there was another problem, I would most likely return it and special-order one from one of the many sites that provide hand-made dog coats made according to your dog‘s measurements (I have almost no sewing skills).

Dogs are dogs. Nature has given them the best coat you can imagine. Why would you need to dress a dog unless it is one of those breeds that can only survive in the tropics or desert?

If you really, really must then at least make sure it fits neatly and looks discreet. No pink bows or Burberry checks. Please.

It wouldn't matter either way, as long as it was comfortable for the dog, was easy to put on and off, and wasn't in some silly colour to make him feel like the other dogs are all laughing at him :)

I would prefer a hand made one, however, what I prefer and what I can afford are two different things. I would buy a hand made coat if it was of reasonable price, and quickly available to me.
