Ok, I need the easiest and most simple solution. I have already thought about using an external drive (memory stick), but am not still sure if it will work.

The fastest and simplest way is to setup a temporary LAN (local area network) and share files from another computer with a cdrom or another type media that you can access through the laptop. Once connected install XP to the laptop and complete the setup sequence.

P.S. Since you do not have a cdrom on the laptop be sure you make a start-up disk just in case you have trouble booting up in the future.

Like the other poster said, use an external CD drive.

There is one other way, but really messy!

Find a laptop with a CD drive and swap drives and do the install on your HD on that laptop. Don't activate it yet.

Once installed, it should configure any new devices it finds and then go ahead and activate it. (BTW - you might still need files off that XP CD, so you will still need an external drive if that happens).

You could also try doing the same from a desktop by pulling your laptop HD and getting an IDE converter to plug it into the desktop.

Either way, it is messy and cleanup afterward can be tricky an the installation ID (part of the initial setup) is partly based on hardware.
