Have a look at http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/, if you want to travel by train which is probably easiest. The journey is about an hour and a half and you can use the site to check times and costs. Lake District station is called Oxenholme Lake District.

A bus would probably be cheaper but take longer, you could look on firstgroup.com or megabus.com for info.

Have fun it will be beautiful...

approx 2 and and half hour to south lakes ie bowness area, cheaper in the car, but you can get a coach trip for about £20-£30 for a day out which includes a boat trip when you get there
