My motherboard crashed so I'm looking to start fresh with a cheap fixer upper and all the new cheap ones come with vista. BUT will Civilization 4 work with Vista?

Well that was informative. I don't know for an absolute fact (I don't own Civilization 4) but it should, almost all XP games work on Vista, I have not heard anything about Civilization 4 havign compatibility issues.

Don't get Vista. It's terrible. Stick with XP, or get a Mac. If you want a cheap computer that's not loaded with Vista, get a Mac mini. They start at $599. You can dual-boot with Windows XP and play your PC games. You'll also love Mac OS X.
