That is how I have been feeling, and I don't like who I have been over the last year or so.

I think that's the first step towards full maturity, no matter how old you are. Taking responsibility for your actions isn't always easy or pleasant, but it's the only way to gain control of your own life.

I know some 50 year old people who whine and complain about how badly life has treated them, but they won't take responsibility for their own part in what's happened to them. People like that will never be mature until they stop dragging the stinking corpse of past mistreatments along behind them through life.

Big time. I started doing that last summer when I applied for health insurance for the first time and made a bunch of dentist appointments because I hadn't been there for 9 years. I got on antidepressants in November and quit drinking 3 months ago. I'm sick of living my life like a irresponsible teenager. I'm 29 and there is no excuse for me being like this anymore. I'm planning on getting into therapy as well and I got to AA meetings (don't laugh, it helps!) I'm not trying to be a perfect person, I just want less drama in my life and I have to realize that I create a lot of that drama by being irresponsible. I'm sick of doing the whole 'poor me' thing and blaming everything bad in my life on something else. I've made a lot of progress so far.

Yes, I have. Thats when I stopped drinking, and stop beleiving in Christianity. Im not sure what was worse - the alcohol or the beleifs. I know both allowed me the excuse of not being responsible for my own actions, and instead being the victim of Satan and circumstance.

Im so much better now, in such a better place in life since Ive been able to learn how to take responsibility for myself and my own actions.

I've felt similar. I currently feel like I have to take my "destiny" in hand and make what I want in life happen. I've been sitting around waiting for things to just happen, when I know I'm just lazy and need to get out there and get it done myself.

I have to take responsibility for getting what I want out of life.

Yes, definetely.

Don't let it scare you. Its the beginning of a positive journey, search for the way to do it that isn't depressing. search. search. blablabla.
