... arrogant?

It's not a matter of being arrogant, its being convicted in what you speak. Im not looking to be tolerated... I wish to speak my mind, like everyone else.

Apparently your pov challenged their sense of ego. Perception is 9/10th of the battle. No matter what your intent there is ALWAYS (in this life) going to be someone who finds your opinion a challenge to their ego, and they'll contract around that and lash out. His Holiness the Dalai Lama once mentioned that there are people who, no matter how sweetly you wish them to have a nice day, will be angered by it or suspicious (loosely paraphrased).

Cultivate understanding that their behaviors and thinking arises due to causes and conditions, change what you can but be calm about what you cannot... that's what I think is best in such circumstances. Trust me, I used to get frustrated too until a borderline-personality disordered person taught me that lesson well... suddenly the Buddha's teachings hit home like a mallet to the head and I understood completely. Teachings can be found in some of the spookiest places....

Based on the number of thumbs-down that I get when I point out the logical fallacies underlying someone's argument, I'm forced to conclude that classical debate techniques are anathema around here. As are polysyllabic words, apparently.

I always thought that it was a compliment to your opponent to use the best logic and verbal skills that you have. These days, that's apparently considered arrogant and politicially incorrect behavior.

I refuse to play the dumbing-down game, however. Like you, my convictions run very deep, and if people can't deal with someone who is articulate and forceful, then that's their problem, not mine.

Arrogance is an attitude that is unfortunately commonplace, both in the educated & the ignorant. Having said that, I must say that I appreciate it when people express themselves articulately whether I agree w/ their views or not.

It is somewhat amusing to me when people resort to labelling others when they don't agree w/ the views expressed but they're unable to refute them. It is a cheap shot, I grant you, as well as intellectual laziness. Convictions are good but we should be able to back up what we're saying.

Well, some people are arrogant without even realizing it. I'm not accusing you of this, because I have no basis by which to judge. I'm merely saying that I know some people who are articulate and expressive, but whether they have a valid point or not, they love to come off as being right.
That's unbearably annoying.

Maybe it came across as arrogance. Though in here, you shouldn't pay too much attention to that type of thing. Everyone is arrogant from time to time... and the more they argue, complain, attack, etc... the more arrogant they look as well.

You find all kinds on here. I have tried and tried to ask questions without being offensive. People read into it what they want. Most have a preconceived notion based off of your first 5 words.
(Thats not a statistical fact). I am just saying do your best to get what you want out there and then laugh at the people who don't get it. Their answers are pretty null and void anyway. If they can't answer seriously you are not going to get a serious answer.

Maybe tone has to do with it. Or perhaps others just simply don't want to hear it because it may be against what they believe in (not religiously). Maybe you bring up too many "good points" that you leave them feeling like fools, so their first response is an attack to attempt to "bring themselves back up to level." Reasons can vary. Maybe they just can't handle it.

There appears to be a dread of articulate expression. We have somehow been persuaded that honesty expresses itself in garbled, misspelled, ungrammatical and nearly incomprehensible mutterings.

This happens because the opposers cannot think of anything that is better to say. They cannot think of a good counter-argument to the good point and so they resort to childish name-calling.
