Chrysler would go down first, then GM (bigger losses), then Ford. GM only shows as the number one manufacturer because of the huge range of Makes and Models. Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac, Saturn, GMC, etc.
Ford makes Ford, Mercury, Lincoln.
Chrysler makes Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler, Jeep, etc.
What you will see is the end of the unprofitable lines, and a general improvement of the products.
Ford still sells plenty of trucks and Mustangs. The SUV market has weakened and the family sedan market is dismal.
The introduction of the new Super Duty Trucks will give that segment a shot in the arm as they were pretty much unchanged since 1999.

No they won't. The ripple through the economy would be devastating.
Ironically, back in the '80's when Lee Iacocca left Ford to save Chrysler, Ford and Gm were very opposed to the government guaranteed loans. Believe me, the government really put the screws to Chrysler, but they survived and repayed the loan WAY ahead of schedule.
Ford is in the process of getting government guaranteed loans. This must be very satisfying to Iacocca and Chrysler. I'll bet GM won't scream this time because they will be next in line. BWAHHHHAHHHH
Ford stock is less than $9. Buy it up and hold on for the long term. When Gm tanks, do the same thing.

How are you saying not selling enough? They are number two or number 3 every month in sales in the US.... If it was further back, I'd say differently...
Ford is having to scrape the fat that they did for years and get leaner... If they can get emissions right.. a lot of cars that can compete with Honda and Toyota can be brought in from Australia.... give them time to get back into the car market...
Also until Toyota,Nissan, and Honda will build a truck that can go over 10,000 pounds of carrying.. there will always be a American truck market.

They still are the best selling truck for the last 30 years straight.
They are coming out with new models all the time. They will be here, or at least I hope, if not it would be a blow to the US economy. Ford sure pays a lot of taxes.
