the verb "rely" when it turns into an adj "reliable"
why is it that the "y" in rely turns into an "i" in reliable ??

I don't know what your teacher would say, but it is an English spelling convention to express that particular sound as a "y" at the end of a word and as an "i" in the middle of a word.
