We don't have the enzymes to break down the grass or leaves. Grass is almost all cellulose which is made of glucose units (one of the units of table sugar) bonded in a beta 1-4 linkage. Our body does not have the ability to break this bond and make the glucose units available for energy. The truth is we can eat grass, it isn't poisonous, but we would just pass it like any other fiber we might eat,

Of course you can. But do you really want to be eating a plant that people are constantly stepping over with their dirty boots and shoes? How about all the dogs, cats, and other animals defacating on it?
If you go to a health food store, you can sometimes find wheat grass. People pay lots of money to drink that blended up.
All sorts of grasses and leaves are considered herbs, so maybe you're already eating some without knowing it.
People eat pine nuts too. They are found inside pine cones and are one of the ingredients in the delicious Italian sauce called pesto.
In Japan, leaves are often used ornamentally and/or to wrap up food, but usually not eaten as they are tough.
Why don't you grow some grass indoors in a nice clean herb garden, then eat it, packed full of yardy goodness.

I think you can eat grass, it just doesnt taste good most of the times. If you want to eat it, research it a little bit to make sure you are not eating anything that is going to harm you, wash it and then blend it up for a refreshing drink.
Most leaves are probably edible to. Just dont taste good and the texture/structure probably makes them more difficult to eat.
Remember that we do eat what we can from differant grasses, such as seaweed and wheat grass.

That is a very good question. I never thought about it that way. I might have to try to cook some of that grass in the backyard and try it out myself lol :)

You know...this is a yes and no question. Some leaves and
grasses are definitely NOT good for us but some can be eaten. I was surprised to find that my bagged salad greens listed "red oak" and some other oak leaves. They even looked like oak leaves so I guess they really are. I told my family "Just give me a bottle of ranch dressing and turn me loose in the woods!" hehehehe

you can eat grass all you want...but your body will not be able to digest it because we (as humans) do not produce the enzyme to break down cellulose. cows and other ruminant type animals produce that enzyme (cellulase). thats why. now go eat your wheaties.
