yes. all other war held drafts...
this is the first major war lasting 6 years in which the US has only lost 3200 people... which is truely a blessing.. if you look at the vietnam war we lost 58,000 in the same period.. and in ww2 we lost a very large number in 1 day in D-day. today our troops are better trained and have better gear.. so they are able to come out in 1 part when in the past they would have died

Except the draft in the Civil War, the US didn't have a normal conscription process until WW I. After WW II, we had the draft, but Korea and Vietnam were fought with the draft having its major impetus from the Cold War, not to get troops to fight those conflicts.

That's your first indication ofhow much of a joke and a farce this war really is. In one breath it's comparable to WWII and it's the fight of our life, if we lose it, our way of life may end.
In the very next breath, the HNIC, Bush tells us to go shopping and act like everything is normal. LMAO! The truth of the matter is this is more of a minor war than Nam was but just as political. It should not even be used in the same breath with WWII.

I don't recall a draft for the Spanish American war. but yeah, most wars do have the draft. Good thing we don't now, middle easterners are not my enemy, Bush is.
