Nah, you don't have to snap it in half, that's just to make the noodles shorter. Boil it for like 15 minutes on med-high, stirring occasionally. Then to check it, this sounds crazy, but take a noodle and throw it against like your fridge or a cabinet or something. If it sticks, it's ready, if not give it a few more minutes. I swear this works!!

You don't HAVE to snap it in half, but you will find that it cooks more quickly and is easier to eat in shorter strands. Also, if smoke is coming from the pot, it probably is not a good sign. Here's how you make pasta:
Boil about 3 quarts of water in a big pot. Put a little bit of salt in the water for flavor. Wait for the water to come to what they call a "rolling boil"- when it looks like it's sort of rolling like a wave- before throwing in the pasta.
After you've put the pasta in the pot, boil it for about 10 minutes. Make sure to turn it every couple minutes or so, so it doesn't stick to the sides or bottom of the pot.
After 10 minutes, VERY carefully lift out one of the noodles and taste it. If it still seems too chewy, leave it boiling for another few minutes. If it tastes just right, take the pot off the stove and use a colander to drain out the water. Now your pasta is ready for sauce!!

You can snap them in half if you like. I usually just put them whole in the boiling water with one end sticking out of the water. After a few seconds they get soft enough that they can be bent and you can put the entire streak into the boiling water. I leave the pot uncovered and leave the water at a medium boil. I don't like my spaghetti to well done because they get mushy. It is a personal preference if they are ready. just fish one cooked stick out of the pot, cool it off with water, and eat one and you will be able to tell if they are ready for you or not.

You do not need to snap the speghetti in half, that is completely optional and depends on how long you want your noodles to be when your eating them. When you place them in the water after a few seconds the part that is submerged will become soft and you can push the rest of the noodles into the water. Stir a couple times to make sure the noodles cook evenly and do not stick together or to the bottom of your pot.
Water boils at 212 degrees Fareinheight. When steam comes out, it is not ready. Wait until it starts boiling. Rapid bubbles at the top.

Not if your pasta pot is big enough. You can also put it in the pot and let it stick out a little. In under a minute the part in the water will be soft enough that you can push the part on the outside down into the salted boiling water.

no, you don't have to snap in half unless you want to. as the bottom part of the spaghetti starts to soften, the top part will begin to submerge itself into the water.
smoke should not be coming from the pot. if you mean steam, then no, it does not mean its ready. spaghetti takes on average 8-12 minutes to boil, depending on the brand. fresh spaghetti can cook in less that 4 minutes.

No you don't have to break them in half. Most people do that so that it's either easier to eat or their pots aren't big enough for the entire noodles. The smoke doesn't indicate whether it's ready or not. You have to taste it before you can determine if it's cooked to your liking.

You may have to snap some, if not, then just rest them in the saucepan, and then when the underneath goes soft just push them under, so they all cook.
Not neccessarily, look at the packet and it should tell you how long it will take (is it fast cook?) dont let it boil over, but it does need to boil.
When it is steaming and the pasta is all soft it SHOULD be ready!!!!

No. You do not have to break the pasta in half before cooking. It helps to do that if you have a small pot.
Smoke? What are you doing? Grilling it?
The best way to see if pasta is done is to taste it.

First of all you do not have to break them in half that just makes it easier to eat because they are shorter noodles. It smokes because it's boiling it doesn't mean it's ready. It's ready when your noodles are soft you can taste one to see if it's ready.
