Rent a car, if only for the assurance that any roadside headaches will be taken care of by someone else and not ruin your vacation.

Totally depends on you. Is your car in good shape? 65K miles is not much for a car nowadays - it may even still be under warranty. If your car is capable of making the trip, I'd suggest using it. The gas savings won't be worth the rental price of the trip.

Taking your car:
Pros - Doesn't cost you $$ per day. You'll probably be more comfortable driving your own car.
Cons - Your car may not be in good shape. It may be uncomfortable for long drives. It may be a gas hog. This all depends on your specific car.

Renting a car:
Pros - You may get better gas mileage. It will (hopefully) not break down.
Cons - It may not be as comfortable as your car. You have no guarantees on what type of shape the rental is in, whereas you know what shape your car is in.

If you have the money to treat yourself go for the
rented car. If you want to use the money while on
your trip go with your own car.
