almonds are the absolute best nuts to feed to any animal, especially squirrels. But do not feed them the salted and roasted kind. Almonds have protein and nutrients needed by a squirrel to thrive and be healthy. Hope that helps!
*Do not feed your squirrel(s) peanuts! These are unhealthy and make your squirresl sick!

Almost all the venders in zoos and city parks across this country, sell thousands of pounds of peanuts every year just
so people can feed the squirrels. So, I'd have to go with that--
peanuts is your answer. (After all, venders are out there to make money and they know what sells.)

We used to have a squirrel and they are really easy keepers. They need of course a shell to help keep their teeth conditioned. We tried to stay with what is native in our area. They are still a wild animal even if you raised it from birth, just a reminder. Enjoy them, they are lots of fun.

the best nuts to feed squirrels would be either acorns or walnuts, but walnuts are easier to find

Monkey nuts (peanuts) in the shells. They seem to quite enjoy opening them.

I'd use corn. We have squirrel feeders and we put corn on them and they love it.
