I have a lot of respect for athiests and I understand and agree with the scientific principles behind their beliefs. With that said, why do some athiests have to resort to insulting religious people? Wouldn't it be more productive to gently, politely and respectfully air your differences with them? That MIGHT change the believers minds - insults NEVER will!!

Why are believers such jerks to athiests?
Why do some christians really think they can scare us with a presumptuous, sanctimonious recititation of what THEY think will happen to us in the afterlife, as if were up to them? Wouldn't it be more productive to gently, politely and respectfully air your differences with us? It will probably never change our minds, but insults just make us despise them.

As a Christian, I could reverse the question and ask why so many believers are jerks to atheists.
We should never lump a group of people together as if they are all the same. Some Christians are great, some are jerks. Some Atheists are great, some are jerks.

Religious people insult atheists as well. They just do it in a more respectful manner. Insults are in the eye of the beholder. Showing the bottom of your foot to some Arabs is insulting, Americans put all fingers down except for the middle one.. and this is insulting. Christians insult Atheists because they are often "smug" in nature to them.
Hmmm... excuse me I am christan... a person of jesus... and he will strike you dead if you get in my way... c'mon buffy... lets go play tennis!

A) Jerks exist in all religions and none.
B) Kneejerk repetitive questions ('You really believe in God, don't you? You're just scared!') bring out the jerk in a lot of people.
